Massachusetts and U.S. flags lowered to half-staff to honor Sgt who died while on active duty

State and U.S. flags are to be lowered to half-staff from sunrise ’til sunset Saturday in honor of Sgt. First Class Diclecio Dos Anjos of Brockton, who died Aug. 9 while on active duty with the Massachusetts National Guard 182nd Medical Company.

According to 182 Medical Company Area Support, “Dos Anjos joined the Massachusetts Army National Guard on November 26th, 2002. He served as a Platoon Sergeant and Readiness NCO for the 182nd Medical Company. He previously served as a Healthcare NCO for Joint Forces Headquarters, 972nd Military Police Company, 182nd Infantry Battalion, and 182nd Engineer Sapper Company.”

“In 2012, he deployed as a Combat Medic to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. In recognition of his heroic and lifesaving efforts during deployment, he was awarded the Combat Medical Badge, the Army Commendation Medal with a “V” device for valor, and a Purple Heart for wounds received in action. Following the deployment, he continued to be recognized for distinguished service with several other awards to include the Meritorious Service Medal.”

Dos Anjos is survived by his wife Jessica Dos Anjos, son Adilson, daughter Vanessa, father Anildo Correia Dos Anjos, mother Maria Dos Reis Dos Anjos and siblings SGT Carlos Correia Dos Anjos, Flavio Sequeira Correia, Arlete Sequeira-Anjos Pierce, & Artimiza Sequeira Dos Anjos.

Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. on August 25, 2023, at Waitt Funeral Home, 850 North Main St., Brockton. The Funeral Mass will take place at 10 a.m. on August 26, 2023, at St. Edith Stein Church, 71 E. Main St, Brockton. Burial with full military honors will follow at Calvary Cemetery, 163 N. Cary St., Brockton.
