Mass. Senate Majority Leader Cindy Creem: Senate “intending to do something” of its own on gun laws

STATE HOUSE, BOSTON, JULY 25, 2023…..As the House backs down from its plan to advance an omnibus gun reform package this summer, the Senate is now considering its own strategy to potentially produce a comprehensive bill or combine some of the many proposals awaiting a committee hearing.

“I know we in the Senate are going to be working on our own bill,” Senate Majority Leader Cindy Creem told the News Service on Tuesday. “We’re going to now be working on trying to find consensus in our body on a bill that we can put out. We’re looking to do our due diligence.”

The Senate is “intending to do something” due to “so many shootings” affecting “so many young people,” Creem said, without offering any timeline.

“We’re going to be working on our bill. We anticipated the House, and if they do it in the fall, that’s fine. I’m sure they’re going to do something — maybe they just thought they needed more time with the bill,” she said.

House Speaker Ron Mariano had initially aimed to win approval for an omnibus gun bill sponsored by Rep. Michael Day, co-chair of the Joint Committee on the Judiciary, before the traditional August break starts.

But amid a procedural spat with the Senate over where to send the bill for a hearing and following closed-door meetings with House members, Mariano announced Monday night the new target for passage is sometime in the fall.

Creem said that Senate President Karen Spilka of Ashland will decide if the Senate ultimately pursues an omnibus proposal or builds upon some of the 47 bills — including several that the Newton Democrat filed — referred to the Public Safety Committee. Senate Democrats previously offered to hold a hearing on “all gun safety matters” in that committee this month.

“We have procedural issues of where it is, but I think it brought to light that we wanted everything to have a hearing,” Creem said of Day’s bill, which includes reforms for red flags laws and right-to-carry provisions. “We want to make sure that we have a hearing and that we study all the various facets because it’s not so simple. It’s not just like, ‘OK you can’t carry a gun.’ ”

Creem, without providing specific examples, said she’s needed to field questions from people about Day’s bill.

“I think it’s important for the Senate to establish where they are, as well,” she said.

” Study all the various facets ” Study hard because in light of Bruen and Heller the nonsense proposed already is blatantly anti-constitutional but being the brain dead politicians in Massachusetts when did the constitution ever matter?

Bravo, I’ve also been fed-up with the liberal mental disorder masquerading as a legislative body in Massachusetts for several decades. Let’s vote these people out of a job because being a corrupt Democrat in Massachusetts has become a job entitlement into eternity.

You forget you’re a small minority in this great state. Your best bet is take your ammo-sexual self right out of here! Just looked, Mississippi has the highest level of gun violence. It’s an extreme red state. Here in Massachusetts we still interpret the second amendment the way it was originally written. As it was originally written and interpreted for over 200 years you only had the right to a gun if you were a member of a well-regulated militia or if your state deemed you responsible enough.

Also if you’re a law abiding citizen, not a terrorist and not a domestic abuser nobody’s coming for your guns and never will. But unfortunately you’re so scared of everything maybe you shouldn’t have guns. If you’re afraid of your own shadow what’s going to happen when some poor kid knocks on your door? Are you got to blow them away?

Hey look, The states with the highest gun violence are all red states! Why don’t you go shoot one another in another state because we don’t want your violence here!

You, like our stupid politicians, are flat out wrong. which is why the state had to conform in light of the ruling in Heller then again in Bruen. And once the so called ” Assault weapons ban ” gets to the SCOTUS that will be shot down ( pun intended ) as well because of the ” in common use ” reference. The state of Massachusetts does NOT follow the ” history , text and tradition ” of the Second Amendment like most blue states and will pay the price for their blatant anti-constitutional laws.

And most of the so called ” gun violence ” is done by criminals with illegal guns and you don’t punish law abiding citizens for the actions of criminals. ” to stop drunk drivers from killing sober drivers, Just prevent sober drivers from driving. That’s how gun control works. ”

” nobody’s coming for your guns ” Obviously you didn’t read the proposed bill. But don’t fret most of the morons you elected didn’t either. Go read the bill then come back and then I’ll accept your apology. Stop conflating what criminals do with law abiding citizens do.

Hey look the cities with the highest gun violence are all Democrat run blue cities with the strictest gun laws. https://finance.yahoo.com/news/30-u-cities-highest-violent-192626493.html

In that list 23 out of 30 have a Democrat for a mayor. So much for your lies.

The Right to Keep and Bear Arms has nothing to do with the individual states, it is explicitly spelled out in the Federal Bill of Rights. Sorry your confused about the United Stayes Constitution and not just your own gender identity Kenny boy. The state of Massachusetts is in a free fall as far as quality of life issues, unless you happen to be an illegal invader. Funny how you socialist psychopaths want to extend Constitutional Rights to anyone but blood right Americans. Long live the Republic! Maybe when the CCP Army arrives on America’s shores you’ll be wishing you had your great great Grand pappys musket still. You should never have turned it in for a $50 gift card to SAVERS!!!

Wow that’s enough goodness to make a MAGAt loses there mind!

We want fascist Nazis like Ken Messianic to stop with their control freak mentality, from controlling actions granted to us by God. Keep your Antifa tactics out of America. You should leave the state because rubes like yourself will not control us Patriots. We love our country, and we despise petty tyrants like the Red Coats we dispelled from here hundreds of years ago. Your weak and impotent rotting flesh will perish from this earth, and your dead spirit will be forgotten! We know that your kind no longer procreates, which ensures your fascism will also die with you.

Wow you are totally confused. The left extreme is communism. Your extreme, the right is fascism. No wonder you don’t realize you’re fascist!

Oh and I’m still not a coward like you to post under stupid names. Funny how you realize how unpopular your views are! You also wouldn’t want anybody to know that you didn’t learn anything in social studies. I got a feeling you aren’t too intelligent at any other subjects.
