Mask dispute at Massachusetts Dunkin’ leads to victim scalded by thrown coffee

Another mask dispute in Massachusetts led to a coffee reportedly being thrown at a maskless patron.

According to Brookline Police, this morning at approximately 8:27 a.m., Brookline Police Dispatch received a call for a customer disturbance at the Dunkin Donuts located at 8 Harvard Street in Brookline. Both the suspect and the victim were customers.

Police stated that the suspect and the victim got into a verbal exchange regarding the victim not wearing a mask inside of the store. The victim pulled his shirt over his face in an attempt to deescalate the situation. The suspect then became belligerent toward store employees as well as other customers. While exiting the store, the suspect threw his hot coffee in the direction of the victim striking the victim on the back of his lower legs. The suspect was located approximately 2 blocks away near Station Street.

Upon seeing officers, the suspect ran toward Route 9 where he was quickly apprehended by officers.

The suspect was arrested and was arraigned today in Brookline District Court on charges of Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon and Disorderly Conduct.
