Market Basket warns of current scam currently fooling customers
Market Basket has sent out a statement warning customers of a scam that is currently taking place.
“It has come to our attention that a newly created and unauthorized Facebook profile is using our name and logo to contact our customers by posing as our official page. This page has been sending friend requests to our customers and has been asking for sensitive information as a requirement to enter our Drink Up, Work Out giveaway. Please be advised that facebook.com/marketbasket is our only Facebook page. We do not send friend requests to our customers, and if you receive a friend request from a profile that appears to be Market Basket, please know that it is not from us. Market Basket will never request payment information online, and we ask our community to be vigilant and to not provide this information to other Facebook pages. The safety and privacy of our customers is very important to us and we are working diligently to address this concern.”
It is a good general rule of thumb not to give sensitive personal information on Facebook whether it is an account that you believe is one of your favorite brands or a personnel account stating they are one of your favorite celebrities.
Spread the word so others do not fall for this scam!
