One man was transported to Rhode Island Hospital by Lakeville Fire Department following a car versus tree collision last night.

According to the Lakeville Fire Department, the crash occurred at 10:40 p.m. on Pierce Avenue.

While traveling the nearly 6 miles to the crash scene, responders were alerted that the occupant of the vehicle was trapped inside the vehicle and it was on fire. Police officers arrived on scene to find that the victim had been removed from the burning vehicle by two bystanders.

No other victims were found in the vehicle.

Responders arrived within 8 minutes of the first call to find the car fully engulfed in flames. The victim was located in a nearby driveway where he received medical treatment.

Firefighters on scene quickly extinguished the fire.

The patient’s condition and the severity of the crash warranted transport to a level 1 trauma center.

Fire Chief Mike O’Brien praised the coordinated response of all Lakeville first responders and the dispatcher. He wishes to also single out the two men who likely saved the life of the crash victim, “Had these two men not intervened when they did, it is likely we would have a much more horrific and tragic outcome”.

The two bystander rescuers wish to remain anonymous, according to LFD.
