Man killed in fiery crash on I-195 Saturday
Last evening at approximately 7:27 p.m. troopers from the State Police – Dartmouth Barracks responded to reports of a crash on I-195 Eastbound, between Exits 1 and 2, at the 3 mile-marker in Seekonk.
According to MSP, upon arrival, troopers discovered that a 2012 Mercedes C30, driven by Michael Keefe, 60, of Sarasota, Fla., was traveling eastbound, when for reasons still under investigation, drove off the left side of the highway, into the median, striking a tree. The impact ejected Keefe, then the vehicle caught fire. As a result of injuries sustained in the crash, Keefe was determined to be deceased on scene.
The two left lanes were closed during the crash investigation and reconstruction. All lanes were opened at approximately 9:49 p.m.
The remaining facts and circumstances remain under investigation by troopers assigned to the State Police Dartmouth Barracks, Troop A Headquarters, State Police Detective Unit assigned to Bristol County District Attorney’s Office, State Police Crime Scene Services Section (CSSS), State Police Collision Analysis Reconstruction Section (CARS), Seekonk Police Department, Seekonk Fire & EMS Departments, Massachusetts Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, and the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MA DOT) all assisted on scene.
