Man hit by vehicle walking on Quequechan River Rail Trail in Fall River
A man was injured after being hit by a vehicle while walking on a trail in Fall River leading to more questions regarding a proposed access road.
According to Detective John Robinson, today at approximately 11:50 a.m. Fall River Police Officer Aaron Souza responded to a report of a pedestrian hit by a motor vehicle on the Quequechan Rail Trial at the Quequechan Street Crossing.
During the course of his investigation, Ofc. Souza learned that a 49-year-old Marstons Mill man was walking on the Quequechan Rail Trial. As the man approached the Quequechan Street crossing he activated the pedestrian crosswalk lights. When he observed that traffic had stopped due to the crosswalk lights, he began walking. As he crossed Quequechan Street, a 2009 Nissan Versa operated by a 73-year-old Fall River Woman, accelerated and struck him, knocking him to the ground.
The 73-year-old woman stated she didn’t know what the flashing lights meant. After coming to a stop she accelerated striking the pedestrian. The 73-year-old woman was cited for Failure to Yield to a Pedestrian in a Crosswalk.
The 49-year-old male was transported to Charlton Hospital for treatment of a non-life threatening leg injury.
