BROCKTON – A Washington man was arraigned today in Brockton District Court after being arrested for vandalizing the building hours earlier, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz has announced.
At his arraignment today, 62-year-old Andrew Steele pleaded not guilty to one count of Vandalism. He was held on $5,000 cash bail and was ordered to undergo a full evaluation at Bridgewater State Hospital.
At approximately 2:00 a.m. this morning, Brockton Police were dispatched to the district courthouse on Main Street after an individual called law enforcement to report that he was “tagging” the building. Officers arrived and encountered the caller, later identified as Steele.
He stated to officers that he spray painted the courthouse in protest, and added that he had done so for personal reasons. The words “LIVES HARMED HERE” were found spray painted on the building numerous times, and multiple cans of paint were located nearby.
Steele was subsequently arrested without incident.
