BRAINTREE — Chief Mark Dubois reports that a Boston man is facing several charges, including Assault to Murder, following a shooting at the South Shore Plaza yesterday.

Jose Rodriguez, 21, of Boston, is being held without bail at the Braintree Police Department, and is expected to be arraigned at Quincy District Court by video. He will be transferred into the custody of the Norfolk County Sheriff’s Department today.

A second male suspect has been released from police custody at this time. Police continue to actively investigate the incident, and additional charges may be filed.

At 4:43 p.m. on Friday, July 3, Braintree Police and numerous mutual aid partners responded to the South Shore Plaza on Granite Street after a shooting took place following an altercation between two groups in the mall.

This was not an active shooter situation, but an act of violence between two groups, according to police.

During the incident, a 15-year-old female bystander was shot and suffered what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries. She was transported to an area hospital by ambulance Friday.

After placing the mall temporarily on lock-down and asking those in the surrounding neighborhoods to shelter-in-place, police quickly located Rodriguez and a second male suspect on Granite Street near the mall. Both men were placed in police custody at that time. A gun was also located by police in bushes outside the plaza.

The lock-down and shelter-in-place were both lifted Friday night and the South Shore Plaza Mall will reopen this morning at its normal time.

Rodriguez is charged with Assault to Murder, Assault and Battery by Discharge of Firearm, Assault and Battery on Child with Substantial Injury, Reckless Endangerment of a Child, Carrying Firearm without License, Possession of a Firearm without FID Card, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Discharge Firearm within 500 feet of Building, Trespass with Firearm
