A man was arrested early this morning after police caught him driving too slowly.

According to Sgt. James M. Casey, at approximately 1:25 a.m., he observed a brown Toyota Corolla with Massachusetts registration plates traveling east on Tremont Street.

The vehicle was traveling at a speed of 25 mph in a posted 45 mph speed limit zone. After Sgt. Casey noticed the slow rate of speed of the vehicle, he began to follow it. While following the vehicle, he observed it swaying back and forth within it’s lane of travel. It crossed the center line as well as crossed the fog line. When it crossed the fog line the vehicle almost left the roadway.

Sgt. Casey conducted a motor vehicle stop and the operator was identified as 21-year-old Anthony Rodriguez of Carrier Street in Attleboro. As Sgt. Casey spoke with Rodriguez, he observed signs and symptoms of intoxication due to alcohol.

Ptlm. Todd Hedrick responded to Sgt. Casey’s location to assist with a roadside investigation that included field sobriety testing. At the conclusion of his investigation, Rodriguez was taken into custody without incident. He was transported to the Rehoboth Police Station where he was booked.

Rodriguez was released from police custody on personal recognizance. He is due to appear in Taunton District Court on Monday June 7th.

He was charged with OUI Liquor and Negligent operation of a motor vehicle.

When I was younger and smoked pot, I would drive so slow people passed me walking.
