Man arrested for stealing nearly $750,000 from local ATMs

Police have arrested a man that went on a local money stealing spree and police may have just begun issuing charges.

On Thursday, May 23, members of the Seekonk Police Patrol Division arrested Dean Colin, 26, of Miami, FL for Larceny over $1,200 by false pretense (2 counts) *Possession of 4 or more falsely embossed credit cards *Credit Card Fraud (2 counts).

At about 8:35 p.m. Seekonk Police received information that Colin was at a bank located in the Town of Seekonk. Colin was a suspect in fraudulently withdrawing money from ATMs throughout Southern Massachusetts and Rhode Island. It is suspected that Colin’s recent criminal activity has already amounted to close to three quarters of a million dollars.

Lt. Eric Chalifoux arrived at the bank in question and observed a black male who fit the description of a suspect identified in a prior Police Bulletin. The male was at the bank’s interior ATM. Other Officers arrived a short time later. After a brief inquiry of the suspect, he was placed under arrest without incident. The Seekonk Detective Division took over the investigation along with other Local and Federal Agencies. Search warrants were obtained by the Seekonk Detective Division for a vehicle and hotel room, which resulted in the recovery of approximately $65,920 in cash.

After Colin was booked at the Seekonk Police Headquarters, he was transferred to the Bristol County Sheriffs Department for holding. Colin is currently being held on $500,000.00 bail.

The case is an ongoing investigation, and other charges may be forthcoming from a multitude of other Law Enforcement Agencies.
