
A man appeared to have died while fishing on Thursday morning.
According to police, at approximately 9:00 a.m., the Sandwich Police Department dispatch received a call from a concerned fisherman. He reported an unattended bicycle near the jetty at the East end of the Cape Cod Canal. Further down the jetty, he observed an unattended tackle box.
An officer was dispatched, and checked the area. Near the end of the Jetty he located a male party that was deep within the rocks. It was determined that the individual was deceased. Based on his location and his positioning in the rocks, his recovery was extremely difficult.
Members of the Sandwich Fire Department as well as the Barnstable County Technical Rescue Team were able to recover the man’s body from the location. The Sandwich Harbormasters Office, the Massachusetts Environmental Police, The US Coast Guard, and the US Army Corp of Engineers assisted with recovery efforts.
This incident is under investigation by the Cape and Islands District Attorney’s Office, the Medical Examiner’s Office and the Sandwich Police Department.
The identity of the individual has not yet been released..
Foul play is not suspected.
