MA COVID-19 active cases increase, rates in Bristol county communities rise from last week
Massachusetts saw an increase in active cases in Thursday’s COVID-19 report.
Massachusetts saw 1,938 more positive cases announced today. An increase from Wednesday’s report. The 7 day weighted average positive test rate decreased from 2.46% to 2.29%. On March 8th, the rate was 1.78%
Massachusetts had seen 2,292 more positive cases announced yesterday.
The Massachusetts Department of Health statistics show a rise in total confirmed cases to 613,763 with 8 more reported dead (8 confirmed, 0 probable) for a total of 17,366 (17,022 confirmed, 344 probable).
The overall amount of tests administered in Massachusetts is now 19,543,855 after 112,416 new molecular tests.
The 7 day average of confirmed COVID-19 deaths is currently 17.6.
Estimated active cases saw a slight increase to 35,149.
Hospitalizations have increased in 176 of the last 193 days and 82 of the last 152, but saw a decrease of 20, to lower the total at 735. Yesterday’s total of 755 was the highest since March 3rd. Before the previous 2+ weeks, COVID-19 hospitalizations had been on the decrease as there were 2,428 in the Bay State on January 4th. Late last month’s total of 580 was the lowest since November 7th.

Weekly COVID-19 Public Health Report
According to the April 8th report, Fall River has a 37.2 Average Daily COVID-19 Rate per 100,000 population (Last 14 days) (36.1 last week). New Bedford saw an increase to 36.2 (was 31.4). Westport saw an increase to 28.6 (was 23.9), Swansea is at 29.1 and was 21.9 last week. Somerset also saw an increase as they sit at 27.00 (was 20.1). Freetown stands at 36.3 an increase from 30.0. Dartmouth is currently at 23.3, a jump from last week’s 20.2. Acushnet saw 24.6 (was 21.9).
77 Massachusetts communities are still in the red (high risk) which is up from 55 last week. 32 were in the red the week before and 20 the week before that. Abington, Adams, Athol, Ayer, Barnstable, Billerica, Blackstone, Brewster, Brockton, Carver, Chatham, Chelmsford, Chicopee, Dennis, Dighton, Dracut, East Longmeadow, Edgartown, Everett, Fall River, Framingham, Freetown, Granby, Halifax, Hamilton, Hampden, Hanson, Holyoke, Hopedale, Hull, Lakeville, Lawrence, Littleton, Lowell, Ludlow, Lynn, Mansfield, Mashpee, Methuen, Middleborough, Milford, Monson, Nantucket, New Bedford, Oak Bluffs, Orange, Palmer, Paxton, Peabody, Plainville, Plymouth, Raynham, Rehoboth, Revere, Sandwich, Saugus, Seekonk, Somerset, Southampton, Southboro, Springfield, Sutton, Swansea, Taunton, Tisbury, Tyngsboro, Ware, Wareham, Wenham, West Boyleston, West Bridgewater, West Springfield, Westport, Whitman, Williamstown, Winchendon, and Yarmouth.
