Local woman killed in Taunton car crash remembered for contagious laugh, bold spirit

A Bristol County woman is being remembered after suffering fatal injuries in a car crash.

According to Bristol County District Attorney Thomas Quinn, III, Taunton Police and EMS were dispatched to the area of 266 County Street Friday after receiving 911 calls at approximately 11:15 p.m. regarding a single motor vehicle crash. 

Upon arrival, police located a 2001 Honda Accord with heavy driver’s side damage.  The vehicle had a final resting position against a telephone pole.  The vehicle was occupied by two adult females.  The driver was located with life threatening injuries.  She was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced deceased a short time later.

The driver was identified as 26-year-old Selina (Mendez) Burgos of Taunton.  The passenger, a 23-year-old female, was transported for minor injuries.

According to a family member and a GoFundMe fundraiser, “Selina was so much more than family—she was the heart and soul of our lives. Her contagious laugh, bold spirit, and creative passion for art and tattooing touched everyone she met. Selina had a way of making everyone feel loved and valued, and her memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew her.”

The investigation into this matter is active and ongoing by the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office along with Taunton Police.
