A local woman was in for the shock of her life this afternoon.

According to Narragansett, RI Animal Control, this picture was taken this afternoon in a yard near Camp Varnum. Animal control states that the caller ended up unharmed in the incident. Thankfully she was able to secure herself in her vehicle after the bear opened the car door. The woman fought to shut her car door from the inside.

Animal control wants to make the public aware that black bears can run as fast as approximately 30 mph and to remember that black bears are wild animals. If sighted, please secure yourself as quickly as possible.
