Local spray deck, splash pad, and pools to open in the coming weeks

With warmer temperatures coming, several spots for residents to cool off will be opening in the coming weeks.

The splash pad at Father Travasso’s Park is scheduled to open shortly after Fall River schools break for summer vacation. According to Nancy Smith of the Parks and Recreation Department, normally the opening date would be July 1 which is the start of the new fiscal year.

The Veterans Memorial Pool at 339 Eastern Ave in Fall River is scheduled to open on June 22nd and close on August 22nd. Pool hours are from 11:15 a.m. to–6:45 p.m. seven days a week.

The Freetown/Fall River State Forest wading pool is expected to open on June 15th. It will be open daily from 10:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. until September 2nd. The spray deck is expected to open about that time, but a firm date has not been set according to officials. The pool/deck is located at 105 Slab Road in East Freetown.

Here are the rules and recommendations for the pools in both Freetown and Fall River:

Parking is available in the lot and restrooms are available.

Lifeguards will be on duty.

  • Follow the direction of the Park staff at all times.
  • Take a cleansing shower before entering the pool.
  • Practice sun safety:
    • Always wear sunscreen.
    • Seek shaded areas.
    • Protect your skin from direct sun exposure.
  • Children must always be under supervision by a parent or guardian.
  • Proper swim suits required.
  • Only Swim Diapers allowed in pools.
  • No changing diapers, clothes, or washing children at the side of the pool.
  • No person with a communicable disease allowed in pool.
  • No person with open wounds or wounds covered by a medical bandage allowed in pool.
  • No running or horse play
  • No alcohol
  • No glass containers
  • Diving is only allowed in authorized areas.
