Police, a robbery victim, and a bystander teamed up to capture a suspect today.

According to Dighton Police, at approximately 1:30 p.m., the DPD received a 911 call from a party who was traveling northbound on Somerset Avenue behind a utility trailer that he had reported stolen earlier today in the city of Taunton.

Ptlm. Nicholas Barros and Ptlm. Steven Ferreira were dispatched and arrived quickly on scene.

The operator of the vehicle towing the allegedly stolen trailer exited his vehicle and ran westbound into the woods off of Old Somerset Ave. With the help of a nearby resident who was outside and seemingly alarmed, Ptlm. Barros and Ptlm. Ferreira were pointed towards the area where 28-year-old Sergio Leon, of Taunton, entered the woodline. They then pursued Leon on foot and were able to apprehend him about 300 yards in.

Leon was subsequently apprehended and taken into custody.

Det. Richards, who had arrived and secured the vehicle and trailer, found the vehicle to have an attached number plate along with it being uninsured and unregistered.

The trailer was confirmed and verified as being reported stolen earlier this morning and was released back to the owner on scene.

Leon is facing a number of charges including, but not limited to, operating a motor vehicle after license suspension, resisting arrest and receiving stolen property.

Leon had also been wanted on a warrant issued out of Fall River District Court.
