Police have arrested a local man involved in a serious crash earlier this week.

According to Barrington Police, on Tuesday, July 30 at approximately 8:35 a.m., a 911 call was received reporting a motor vehicle crash on the Wampanoag Trail in the southbound lane north of the Pine Top Road intersection. Officers arrived on scene and found two vehicles off of the roadway with extensive damage.

The resulting investigation revealed the following: Wayne Hagan was traveling southbound on the Wampanoag Trail with his passenger Jeraldine Hagan in a Honda CRV in the right travel lane. The Honda was suddenly struck in the rear by a vehicle traveling in the same direction (southbound) on the Wampanoag Trail. The striking vehicle was operated by Christian Narvaez who was the sole passenger/operator in a Jeep Liberty. As a result of the collision, the Honda was pushed off of the roadway and came to rest in a dirt parking lot adjacent to the roadway which was over 300 feet from the initial area of impact. The striking vehicle being operated by Christian Narvaez continued south after the collision and struck a utility pole that was completely snapped and torn down by the vehicle he was driving. Narvaez’s Jeep continued southbound after snapping the utility pole and came to rest in the tall grass off of the roadway around 600 feet from the initial area of impact.

The investigation also revealed that the striking vehicle operated by Narvaez was traveling at an excessive speed and nearly double the posted speed limit of 45 mph. Narvaez, of 617 Hartford Avenue, Providence, RI, was arrested today at approximately 6:45 a.m. by Barrington Police and charged with:

(1) Driving to endanger, resulting in personal injury, Felony (2) DUI involving bodily injury – 1st Offense, Felony (3) Driving so as to endanger, resulting in physical injury, Felony (4) Driving with suspended license – 3rd or subsequent offense.

Both operators and the passenger were all transported to the hospital with injuries as a result of the crash.
