Local alleged drug dealer arrested on eight charges Thursday

The Rhode Island State Police announce that members of the Violent Fugitive Task Force (VFTF) with the assistance of the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Task Force (HIDTA) arrested a Providence resident for narcotics and firearms charges.

On December 5, 2019, as a result of a court authorized search warrant, members of the VFTF Unit arrested Johnny Veng, age 29, of 148 Dover Street, 2nd floor, Providence for the following:

1) Possession of Firearm after Previous Conviction of Crime of Violence
2) Possession of Fentanyl one ounce to one kilo
3) Possession of Fentanyl with Intent to Deliver
4) Possession of Heroin one ounce to one kilo
5) Possession of Heroin with Intent to Deliver
6) Possession of Cocaine one ounce to one kilo
7) Possession of Cocaine with Intent to Deliver
8 ) Possession of Marijuana

The following was seized from Veng’s residence:

* .40 caliber Glock 23 handgun;
* approximately 204 grams of Fentanyl;
* approximately 368 grams of Heroin;
* approximately 349 grams of Cocaine;
* approximately 93 grams of Marijuana

Veng was processed at the Lincoln Woods Barracks, and arraigned by a Justice of the Peace, held without bail and transported to the Adult Correctional Institute. Veng will be presented at Sixth Division District Court for formal arraignment in the morning of Friday, December 6, 2019.

Any person convicted of a crime of violence, found in possession of a firearm, upon conviction, be punished by imprisonment for not less than two nor more than ten years; and for penalties provided in this section he or she shall not be afforded the benefit of suspension or deferment of sentence nor of probation.

Any person found guilty of possession of one ounce to one kilo of fentanyl, heroin or cocaine, upon conviction, may be imprisoned for a term up to fifty (50) years and fined not more than five hundred thousand dollars ($500,000).

Any person found guilty of Delivery/Possession with Intent to Deliver and Manufacture a Schedule (I) or (II) Controlled Substance may be imprisoned for not more than thirty years, or fined not more than one hundred thousand dollars ($100,000.00) nor less than three thousand dollars.

The Violent Fugitive Task Force is managed by the Rhode Island State Police and the United States Marshal Service. It is comprised of members from the Warwick Police, Pawtucket Police, Coventry Police, Providence Police, Portsmouth Police, Middletown Police, Cranston Police and East Providence Police Departments.
