Lakeville crews nearly hit twice while responding to car fire on Route 140

Lakeville crews were nearly hit last night while responding to a car fire.

According to the Lakeville Fire Department, a call came in just before 10:30 p.m. Saturday for a car fire on Route 140.

Engine 2 crew extinguished the fire and Tanker 1 took up position to supply additional water, which was not needed. Engine 1 responded with call back firefighters and took a blocking position to protect working responders from being run over by passing vehicles.

Engine 1 provided protection to police and firefighters on scene.

During the 30 minutes on scene at this fire, LFD experienced two “near misses”.

The first incident occurred when a vehicle, apparently afraid to pass the burning vehicle, came to a full stop in the high speed lane. An approaching car was forced to panic stop to avoid the collision, narrowly missing Lakeville Car 1.

The second incident occurred when Engine 2 was approaching the scene. As the Engine began to position, a car sped around it on the right and narrowly missed the crew.

No injuries occurred during the incident.
