Thanks to some responders, a pet was rescued from frigid waters.

According to Kingston Fire/EMS, a little after 1:30 p.m. this afternoon, Kingston Fire, Police and Animal Control were dispatched to the pond in the area of 256 Elm Street for a dog that had fallen through the ice.

The owner stated that “Boots” had chased some geese onto the ice when she fell in.

First arriving police officers used a nearby boat to get out to the dog and break the ice while a firefighter in a survival suit made his way to the officer and dog and assisted them back to shore.

Boots was fine and remained with her grateful owner.

Kingston Fire/EMS wanted to remind the public that even with the cold temperatures, ice can never be considered safe.
