Improvements to William S. Canning Blvd moving forward
According to City Engineer JR Frey, the 2.5 million MassWorks Infrastructure Program grant has been received and pre-contract paperwork has been submitted to MassWorks for their review and approval on the William S. Canning Boulevard traffic and road repair project.
Frey stated that they have also selected a design team for the engineering design of the street layout. That team would also be designing the layout for traffic lights at the SouthCoast Marketplace entrance on William S. Canning Boulevard, at the intersection with Mariano Bishop Boulevard, and at the Tucker Street intersection, along with drainage improvements.
Gordon R. Archibald Inc., who was the engineer for the Plymouth Ave. improvement project, will be handling transportation related improvements and Brown and Caldwell will be handling drainage improvements. They are currently awaiting confirmation on wether or not the project does not meet MEPA thresholds which would require additional study prior to design, bidding, award and construction. Frey stated that they believe they will still be able to complete the design and begin construction this year. despite the hold up. Construction completion would either occur at the end of this year, or first thing in the Spring of 2019.
