House Democrats release new $3 trillion stimulus bill; would send up to $6,000 per household
House Democrats today introduced The Heroes Act, a massive coronavirus response bill.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced the proposed stimulus legislation today.
The more than $3 trillion legislation has some of the following provisions:
-$1 trillion to state, local, tribal governments to pay first responders, health workers, teachers
-$200 billion for essential workers hazard pay
-$75 billion for coronavirus testing, contact tracing and isolation measures
-A second round of payments of $1,200 per family member, up to $6,000 per household
-Enhancing employee retention tax credit to encourage employers to keep employees
-Require all workplaces to develop and implement infection control plans based on CDC
-$10 billion for COVID-19 emergency grants through Economic Injury Disaster Loan program
-COBRA subsidies for unemployed to maintain their health coverage
-Extends unemployment benefits with weekly $600 unemployment payments through January.
-$175 billion to assist renters, homeowners make monthly rent, mortgage, utility payments
-15 percent increase to the maximum SNAP benefit, additional funding for nutrition programs
-Money for election safety
-Relief for the U.S. Postal Service
The Heroes Act was introduced by Appropriations Committee Chairwoman Nita M. Lowey (D-NY) and co-sponsored by Education and Labor Committee Chairman Robert C. “Bobby” Scott (D-VA), Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ), Financial Services Committee Chairwoman Maxine Waters (D-CA), Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Eliot L. Engel (D-NY), Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY), Natural Resources Committee Chairman Raúl M. Grijalva (D-AZ), Oversight and Reform Committee Chairwoman Carolyn B. Maloney (D-NY), Small Business Committee Chairwoman Nydia M. Velázquez (D-NY), Veterans Affairs Committee Chairman Mark Takano (D-CA) and Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard E. Neal (D-MA).
Leaders are expected to vote on the COVID-19 stimulus bill Friday.
