House condemned, 46 dogs removed from Pawtucket home

Police have issued an update concerning an incident Monday where animals were removed from a home.

According to Detective Sergeant Theodore Georgitsis, at approximately 2:30 p.m., Pawtucket Police along with Pawtucket Animal Control responded to Senate Street for a report of a possible elderly affairs/hording of animals’ complaint.

Upon arrival it was immediately apparent to officials that the living conditions of the home were abhorrent.

With the assistance other agencies, to include the RISPCA, 46 dogs were removed from the home in various states of health and well-being. An elderly couple eventually surrendered the dogs to officials. The dogs were brought to shelter facilities to be evaluated by veterinarians.

The home was condemned by the City of Pawtucket Zoning Department and arrangements were made to seek housing for the couple.

Georgitsis stated that the investigation is ongoing and whether or not the couple will face possible criminal charges will be determined at a later time.
