Hit-and-run leaves 1 pedestrian dead, another pedestrian seriously injured after multiple collisions in Rhode Island

Two incidents that occurred one right after the other has left one dead and another injured.

According to police, on Sunday, at approximately 9:39 p.m. officers were dispatched to the area of 709 Quaker Lane for the report of a Motor Vehicle Accident involving a pedestrian. On arrival, officers found two victims in the Route 2 South bound lane of travel, a 44-year-old male that was pronounced deceased at the scene, and a 26-year-old female that was transported to Rhode Island Hospital with serious bodily injuries. 

A witness remained on scene and provided a written statement to investigating officers. 

Initial findings indicate that the female had been traveling south on Quaker Lane when her vehicle struck a pedestrian in the right, south bound lane. Upon getting out to check on his condition, a dark colored SUV, described as a Jeep Grand Cherokee, struck the female causing serious bodily injury, and ran over the pedestrian resulting in fatal injury. The Jeep then continued south bound on Quaker Lane without stopping. 

The Warwick Police Traffic Units’ Accident Reconstruction Team is leading the investigation and will be pursuing criminal charges. 

The identification of the deceased is being withheld until the Next of Kin has been notified.
