Concord, NH/Boston, MA – Attorney General John M. Formella and Manchester Police Chief Allen Aldenberg have announced that Kayla Montgomery was arrested Friday afternoon at a residence in Manchester, New Hampshire. Kayla is the stepmother of 5-year-old Harmony Montgomery who officials say was murdered.

32-year-old Kayla missed a scheduled court date on Thursday morning.

PD stated that it is anticipated that Montgomery will be held pursuant to the warrant issued yesterday by the Superior Court until the Court schedules and conducts a hearing next week on the arrest.

Kayla, Adam Montgomery’s estranged wife, was indicted on the charge of Theft by Deception after allegedly receiving money through DHHS for Harmony when she wasn’t a member of the household. She was also arrested on perjury charges in June.

Adam was arrested on January 4 in Manchester and was indicted on one charge of felony second-degree assault arising from 2019 conduct where he reportedly struck then 5-year-old Harmony Montgomery in the face. Montgomery is also facing one misdemeanor charge of interference with custody, and two misdemeanor charges of endangering the welfare of a child pertaining to Harmony Montgomery. He is currently being held on these charges.

Manchester Police Chief Allen Aldenberg, Attorney General John M. Formella, and U.S. Marshal Enoch Willard announced last month that they have multiple sources of investigative information including new biological evidence that Harmony was murdered in Manchester in early December of 2019. Her body has yet to be recovered and a suspect was not announced.

Harmony went to school in Massachusetts before relocating to New Hampshire.
