Greater Fall River RE-CREATION, Mayor, launch summer lunch program
Greater Fall River RE-CREATION along with Mayor Jasiel F. Correia, II announces the kick-‐off of the Summer Lunch in the Park Program. The program starts July 2nd through August 24th at 10 local parks, 4 housing developments and 14 other closed enrolled locations at various times.
Since 1997, RE-CREATION have hosted Free Summer Lunch in the Park each summer in various parks and locations throughout Fall River. This year marks their 21st summer hosting the program and they have expanded each summer to ensure that all of the city’s youth have access to free, nutritious lunch and activities during the summer months.
This is a FREE drop-in program for kids under 18 years of age who are eligible for free or reduced lunch during the school year. According to RE-CREATION, currently, 94% of Fall River’s 10,250 public school students are eligible for free and reduced lunch, but when school is not in session, most of these children are not getting the healthy lunch they need. Activities will be included at most locations.
