Girl gives hug, water, to Somerset police officer during protest

A heartwarming moment occurred Thursday during a Black Lives Matter protest in Taunton.

Somerset Police Chief George McNeil posted on social media this morning the nice gesture done by a little child.

“This young girl provided us with water yesterday and insisted on hugging Officer Kelly. Thank you to the people in Taunton for making your voices heard and expressing your thoughts peacefully.”

The Somerset officer was aiding the Taunton Police Department during Thursday’s protest.

Hundreds of people attended the event that was also applauded by Taunton Police Chief Edward Walsh.

“Chief Edward J. Walsh and the members of the Taunton Police Department would like to thank our community for holding a peaceful protest. On Thursday June 4, 2020 our community came together to have their voices heard and promote dialog about such an important issue. We are very proud of the young organizers of the event. Their passion and intelligence will bring positive social change.”

Fall River also had a protest take place Thursday which was addressed this morning by Fall River Police.

“Chief Cardoza and the members of the Fall River Police Department would like to thank those who participated peacefully yesterday. We also would like to thank the Massachusetts State Police and the other agencies that supported us yesterday. Our community expressed their profound support of everyone who was out there maintaining a safe environment for the event. We appreciate the messages of support and gratitude! The FRPD takes great pride in the partnerships that we have with our neighborhood associations and community leaders.”
