Gang member sentenced to prison in Fall River Superior Court concerning shooting that struck home

A 26-year-old New Bedford gang member was convicted by a jury of his peers of brazenly firing at least seven shots at a vehicle driving along Court Street in May of 2022, Bristol County District Attorney Thomas Quinn announced.

After a three-day trial, a Fall River Superior Court jury convicted Rayshond Lewis of Attempted Assault and Battery by Means of a Firearm, Carrying an Illegal Firearm-third offense, carrying a loaded illegal firearm and larceny.

Lewis was sentenced to serve eight to 11 years in state prison.  The state prison sentence will not begin until he completes a five-to-10-year state prison term he was sentenced to earlier in June for violating the terms of his probation connected to a violent 2017 home invasion.

On May 3, 2022, Lewis was a passenger in a vehicle that travelled to the Ash Street Jail.  The other occupants got out of the car to check on a defendant they believe was being held at the jail.  While this was occurring, Lewis hopped out of the passenger’s seat and fired at least seven shots at another motor vehicle that was driving by at the time.  No one was struck or injured during the incident, but bullets did strike a nearby house, front porch and parked vehicle.

The larceny conviction was connected to an incident about a week after the shooting where Lewis stole his ex-girlfriend’s cell phone.

The trial was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Matthew Sylvia and Shawn Guilderson, and the state prison sentence was imposed by Judge Claudine Cloutier.

“I am extremely pleased that the jury held the defendant accountable for this lawless act of violence which could have killed or injured people in the area. The defendant is a very dangerous individual who has previously been convicted of two prior firearm offenses. In addition, at the time of these offenses, he was on probation for a violent home invasion in which he strangled the victim,” District Attorney Quinn said. “The court appropriately sentenced him to consecutive prison terms for the firearm charges. The two sentences amount to more than 20 years in prison. In addition, the defendant is awaiting trial for allegedly stabbing two inmates while he was held at the house of correction. The citizens of New Bedford will be much safer now that the defendant will be off the street for a long time.”

On probation for a violent home invasion , carrying an illegal firearm THREE previous times!! This state is not serious about keeping it’s citizens safe. 8-11 years he’ll be out in 4 looking for another gun.

” Rayshond ” is a very impressive Hoodrat name …. also, given Rayshon’s criminal history he definitely possesses a fine Hoodrat pedigree … bred from the most esteemed Hoodrats in Bristol County.
However, our local Hoodrat population may be under threat from the rapidly expanding ‘Tren de Aragua’ Gang that Biden, Maura Healy, and Senator Rodrigues have imported from the prisons of Venezuela …. these fellows bring a new level of violence to the streets and will attack and kill not only ‘civilians’ and police .. but the homegrown criminals to dominate drug dealing and other activities.
They have ‘migrated’ up from New York City and are now in Boston and Brockton .. then will be New Bedford and fall River and hopefully Westport, Marion and Mattapoisett etc where finally some chickens will roost on the demon-cat leftist fools that have cursed the Late, Great USA

Wow that is done very harsh talk no matter your opinion on hoodrats trust and believe two wrongs definitely don’t make things better so if you think it’s OK in any way for any one person or gang to over take our cities you may need some help yourself this world is definitely in danger of many people and corrupt things but but unders no circumstances should anyone be allowed to take anothers life all though we have a lot of troubled people who do real crazy and unforgivable things they are someone’s child, brother, father who knows killing doesn’t make it right and as for the person who thinks they only got 8-10 years they need to go back and reread because that’s not what it says
