Full slate of events in Fall River for Memorial Day weekend
A full list of events are scheduled in Fall River from Friday to Monday to honor those who have given the ultimate sacrifice. All Veterans will also receive free admission at Battleship Cove from Saturday, May 26 to Monday, May 28.
FRIDAY MAY 25TH
The City of Fall River will be conducting a Flag Raising Ceremony at 10:00 a.m. at the entrance of Oak Grove Cemetery on Prospect Street. Event to be held rain or shine. Public is invited.
The State of Massachusetts and The City of Fall River in conjunction with Military Friends Foundation will conduct a “Salute To Fallen Heroes” at 1:30 p.m. at the Massachusetts Gold Star Families Memorial located in Veteran’s Memorial Bicentennial Park 1082 Davol Street. Event to be held rain or shine. Public is invited.
The City of Fall River’s Graves Officer and volunteers will be placing approximately 11,000 American Flags on veteran’s graves throughout the city along with 30 memorial wreaths on veteran’s monuments throughout the city. SUNDAY MAY 27TH
A memorial ceremony in honor of U.S. Army Staff Sgt. James T. Griffin who was killed in action in Germany on June 11, 1943 during WWII will be held at 11:00 a.m. at Griffin Park located on Fourth, Fifth, and Branch Streets. Assembly is at Cork Row immediately preceding the ceremony. Event to be held rain or shine. Public is invited.
MONDAY MEMORIAL DAY MAY 28TH
The City of Fall River will be conducting a Memorial Ceremony in honor of U.S. Army Pvt. Michael E. Bouthot, U.S. Army National Guard Sgt. Robert J. Barrett and U.S.Army Spc. Scott A. Andrews, who were killed in action. The ceremony will be held at 10:00 a.m. at Snake Hill in North Park on President Avenue. Event to be held rain or shine. Public is invited.
Attorney Richard Urban will be holding a memorial ceremony in honor of U.S. Army Corporal David L. Miller, a WWII Prisoner of War and survivor of the Bataan Death March of 1942, who died in a Japanese prison camp in 1943. Ceremony will be held at 11:30 a.m. at the Miller Green at South Main and Shove Streets. Event to be held rain or shine. Public is invited.
Remember, honor and celebrate those who gave their lives to ensure the freedoms we now enjoy at Battleship Cove aboard the USS Massachusetts for an official commemoration ceremony conducted by Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 207. Experience a traditional military observance, honoring the fallen and Gold Star Families at 12:00 p.m. with the raising of the American flag from half-staff and a 21-gun salute. Event to be held rain or shine. Public is invited.
The Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 207 will be holding a prayer service and military honors at 1:30 p.m. at the War Memorial Monument in Upper Kennedy Park. Event to be held rain or shine. Public is invited.
The City of Fall River and the Fall River Veteran’s Council will be conducting the annual Memorial Day Parade. It will travel from Kennedy Park South Main Street, east on Sullivan Drive to Third Street and will conclude at the Fall River Government Center Atrium where closing ceremonies will be held. Assembly of parade is at Kennedy Park, corner of South Main Street and Bradford Avenue at 1:00 p.m. Step off is at 2:00 p.m. Event to be held rain or shine. Public is invited.
