Freetown Police warn of deer after Friday evening crash
Freetown Police are warning the public after a crash Friday evening injured a driver.
According to the Massachusetts Division of Fisheries & Wildlife, this is the breeding season of the whitetail deer. Although deer vs. auto collisions happen sporadically throughout the year, the majority of these collisions happen in the middle of October into mid November.
According to Freetown Police, the above collision happened Friday evening at approximately 7:15 p.m. on South Main Street. It was not possible for this operator to avoid this collision as this deer was running full speed across the road and leaped at windshield height. The operator received injury from flying glass and was transported to a local hospital. Luckily, he did not have his child on board. The deer ended up deceased in the rear of the vehicle.
FPD are urging drivers to slow down and be vigilant and to remember to drive carefully and slow down at night during this time of year especially. Even if this means driving below the speed limit.
