Freetown police officer receives prestigious “Life-Saving Award after springing into action to save man
FREETOWN, MA – The Freetown Police Department has announced the commendation of Patrolman Phillip Pine with the prestigious “Life-Saving Award.” This honor was presented to Patrolman Pine by Chief Scott Rose in recognition of his act of heroism and dedication to public safety.
According to Lieutenant Benjamin Levesque, on Wednesday morning at approximately 7:30 a.m., Patrolman Pine was conducting a routine traffic stop when he received an urgent dispatch for a medical emergency involving an individual in cardiac arrest. Without hesitation, Patrolman Pine cleared his traffic stop and rushed to the scene of the medical emergency.
Upon arrival, Patrolman Pine demonstrated unwavering composure under pressure. He quickly deployed a department defibrillator and administered a life-saving shock to the individual. Patrolman Pine continued to provide CPR until the Freetown Paramedics arrived at the scene. He seamlessly transitioned to support the paramedics in loading the patient into the ambulance, ensuring the continuity of critical medical care.
The incident underwent a rigorous review process, according to Levesque, during which Patrolman Pine’s actions were found to be exemplary, meeting the stringent criteria set forth for the “Life Saving Award.”
“His quick thinking, decisive action, and life-saving expertise were truly commendable and showcased his unwavering dedication to protecting and serving the community.”
Chief Rose commended Patrolman Pine, stating, “Patrolman Pine’s recognition not only serves as a token of appreciation for his heroic intervention but also as an inspiration to all members of our organization and the broader community. His unwavering dedication to upholding the values of our department and the trust he instills within the community are evident in his actions.”
