A 51-year-old Freetown man convicted last week of raping his girlfriend’s young daughter was sentenced to state prison, Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn III announced.

Travis Taylor pleaded guilty in Fall River Superior Court on June 17 to indictments charging him with rape of a child, and indecent assault and battery on a person under the age of 14 and was sentenced to serve eight to 12 years.

On December 3, 2019, the mother of the victim contacted Freetown Police to report that she had walked into the home to find the defendant sexually molesting the young girl.

Forensic interviews were conducted with the child, at which point it was learned the sexual assaults had occurred multiple times. Lab testing also confirmed the defendant’s semen was found on the child.

In addition to the state prison sentence, Judge Thomas J. Perrino also ordered the defendant to 10 years of supervised probation, which will commence upon his release from prison.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Casey Smith.

“The defendant took advantage of his access to the young child and sexually assaulted her. Fortunately. the victim’s mother came home and caught the defendant in the act” District Attorney Quinn said. “The conduct is reprehensible and a serious breach of trust. I commend the child for having the courage to come forward to tell her mother and investigators what happened to her. The sentence is well deserved. “
