Freetown firefighters battle fire and heat on Saturday

Freetown firefighters put out a structure fire this morning and the Providence Canteen came in handy.

Just before 10:00 a.m., Freetown Communications received a report of a structure fire on Oaklawn Road. Upon arrival, the initial responders found a split-level home with active fire on the lower level.

According to the Freetown Fire Department, crews initiated an aggressive interior attack and were able to quickly confine and extinguish the fire. 1700′ of supply hose was laid out to the hydrant at the corner of Narrows Road and Highland Ridge Road to establish a water supply.

The occupants of the home all escaped unharmed.

The cause of the fire is under investigation but is believed to have started with an unattended candle.

Car 1, Engine 1, Engine 2, Engine 3, Ladder 2, Squad 1, Squad 3, and Rescue 2 responded to the scene with the Berkley Fire Department providing station coverage during the incident.
