The countdown is on as the Fall River Library prepares for its most exciting summer yet! A Universe of Stories, the 2019 Summer Reading Club, will launch from the library’s front lawn on Tuesday, July 9 at 1:30 p.m. with a concert by the Toe Jam Puppet Band, membership sign-up, space-themed crafts, and other activities. Families are welcome to spread blankets on the lawn, bring snacks, and enjoy an afternoon of music and fun.
Tuesday will mark the first day for children to join the annual 7-week summer reading club, designed to help children maintain their reading skills throughout the summer months as well as engage them in a full schedule of summer activities including storytimes, concerts, puppet shows, craft events, educational programs, and more. Kids up to age 12 can take part; children too young to read can have an adult read to them. All kids will receive an official membership card and reading log for them to keep track of their summer reading progress. As children read throughout the summer they will collect incentive prizes as well as raffle tickets that could lead to bigger prizes at the program’s conclusion. Every child that actively participates in the summer reading club will receive a reading certificate and an award book of their choice at the annual end-of-summer party.
Tuesday afternoon’s activities will include a craft, temporary tattoos, and a visit from “Neila,” the friendly spaceman from planet “Readalon,” who will meet young Earthlings and pose for pictures. Free pencil boxes filled with school supplies will be made available while they last, made possible by the Fall River Public School system.
Event will take place on the library lawn or in the P.A.L. Auditorium, 31 Franklin Street, in case of rain.
