Former Fall River woman charged with smuggling drugs as inmate
A Barnstable County Correctional Facility inmate, previously from Fall River, is facing more charges after reportedly trying to smuggle drugs.
According to the Bourne Enterprise, 42-year-old Jessica Medeiros-Saunders allegedly conspired with her husband Justin Saunders to have him deliver Suboxone to her while she was incarcerated.
Medeiros-Saunders was having her mail monitored after staff reportedly became aware of the plan. Staff opened a card addressed to her where there was a suspicious texture on the bottom right of the card that officials say tested positive for Suboxone.
The Enterprise stated that Medeiros-Saunders was previously ordered held on $20,000 bail as a pretrial inmate on drug possession with intent to distribute, resisting arrest, and assault with a dangerous weapon charges.
On Wednesday, Medeiros-Saunders was arraigned on new charges of soliciting to commit a crime punishable by five years or more, conspiracy to violate the drug law, and conspiracy.
