Former Fall River mayor Correia has more counts dismissed, ordered to pay hundreds of thousands in restitution

Jasiel F. Correia II, the former Mayor of Fall River, has been ordered to pay restitution in connection with a scheme to defraud investors and extorting and conspiring to extort marijuana vendors for hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Correia, 29, was sentenced by U.S. District Court Senior Judge Douglas P. Woodlock last week to six years in prison and three years of supervised release. The government recommended 11 years in prison.

According to multiple reports, Correia has been ordered to pay $310,240 to SnoOwl investors after it was determined that the money was spent on personal items such as cars, trips, and gifts.

Judge Woodlock also dropped two more counts where Correia was found guilty. The counts were related to filing false tax returns. The move brings the total of counts dismissed to 10 which leaves 11 counts.

On May 14, 2021, Correia was convicted by a federal jury of nine counts of wire fraud, four counts of filing false tax returns, four counts of extortion conspiracy and four counts of extortion. Judge Woodlock dismissed six counts of wire fraud and two counts of filing false tax returns, for which the jury convicted Correia.

In October 2018, Correia was indicted on charges of wire fraud and filing false tax returns. He was subsequently charged in a superseding indictment in September 2019 with, among other crimes, extortion conspiracy and extortion.

Correia is scheduled to self surrender to the court on December 3rd to start his prison sentence.
