Former Fall River educator becomes principal at school in Swansea
Swansea Public Schools has announced in a release the appointment of Nicholas Overy as the next Principal of Joseph Case Junior High School.
Overy brings more than a decade of experience within the district, having served Swansea Public Schools for the past eleven years, including nine years as Principal of Gardner Elementary School and two years as Assistant Principal at Joseph Case Junior High School. Prior to his time in Swansea, he worked at Somerset Middle School and Talbot Middle School, building a strong foundation in middle-level education and leadership across grade levels. He earned his undergraduate degree from Rhode Island College and later completed his master’s degree in 2015 through Endicott College’s MSAA Leadership Licensure Program.
Throughout his career, Overy has been known for his student-centered approach to leadership, grounded in authenticity, kindness, and a commitment to doing what is best for students. He prioritizes the needs of the whole child and works to create school environments where students feel known, valued, and supported. His ability to build strong relationships with families and foster a collaborative culture among staff has been a hallmark of his leadership.
Affectionately known by students as “Mr. O,” he has a proven ability to connect with students of all backgrounds, personalities, and abilities. His leadership reflects a school community rooted in trust, empathy, and a belief that every child is valued and appreciated for who they are.
Born and raised in nearby Bristol, Rhode Island, Overy was raised by his loving grandparents, Nina and Jack, who played a central role in shaping his values and commitment to family & community. Above all, he is a devoted father to his daughters, Olivia (15) and Emma (12), a role he considers his most important. He is also grateful for the constant support of his wife, Sarah, whom he credits as his partner in all aspects of life.
Beyond the school setting, Overy is deeply committed to youth and community. He serves as Competitive Director for the Bristol Youth Soccer Association and is a board member of the Katie Brown Educational Program, which focuses on relationship violence prevention for young people. He has also coached youth sports for more than 25 years. Swansea Public Schools is confident that Overy’s experience, leadership, and deep commitment to students will continue to positively impact the Joseph Case Junior High School community.
