Firefighter Wives Association looking to help residents of recent fires
Sharron Schoonover Furtado of the Firefighters Wives Association Inc. is looking to help those affected by recent fires in Fall River.
The Firefighters Wives Association, established in 2012, helps displaced families from fire and other related disasters.
According to Furtado, hundreds of people have been assisted through the organization and they are looking for that work to continue as donations are down.
“There are many fires that happen in our community that sadly do not make the news and the people who lose their homes struggle to find their way and quietly and very slowly begin the process of recovering from their loss. No donation is too small. Every little bit helps.”
Just recently the city endured three major fires.
One fire on Fourth Street resulted in a total loss. According to Deputy Chief Richard Aguiar, three families (5 adults) were displaced. An electrical fire two days later on Tremont Street resulted in the displacement of eight people including one autistic child. At the same time as the Tremont fire, a blaze ripped through a mill on County Street.
