Fire damages section of campus of Bridgewater State University
BRIDGEWATER — Chief Thomas D. Levy reports that the Bridgewater Fire Department responded to a working fire at St. Basil’s Chapel on the campus of Bridgewater State University early this morning.
At approximately 12:10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 21, firefighters responded to an alarm at 122 Park Ave. Engine E-1 was the first to respond.
Upon arrival, firefighters reported heavy smoke coming from the first floor hallway of the building and began an attack.
The fire was found to be located in a first floor office area. The fire was knocked down by approximately 12:40 a.m.
No injuries were reported as a result of the fire, and the last unit was cleared from the scene at approximately 3:30 a.m.
Fire damage was contained to the first floor office area, along with smoke and water damage to the basement and first floor.
“The automatic alarm tied to fire dispatch was a determining factor in preventing further damage, along with the quick response and efficient work by the crews on scene,” Chief Levy said.
The fire is not believed to be suspicious, and remains under investigation by the Bridgewater Fire Investigation Unit.
