Finding A New Home for a Holiday Tradition
By Lauren Bieke
Residents of Summerfield Avenue in Somerset knew the holidays were just around the corner when they saw Steve Kut on his roof stringing lights. For the last 9 years, the Kut family has gone all-out decorating their home for Christmas. The display grew larger each year and included about 75,000 lights last year. It is now a beloved holiday tradition that draws hundreds of people from all over the SouthCoast.
“The community absolutely loved the light show, especially our neighbors on Summerfield Avenue. They have been so supportive,” said homeowner Melanie Santos. “We love bringing joy to people. As the crowd grew, we saw an opportunity to give back, so we began collecting donations to support a charity or local family. Last year, we collected 285 toys for Toys for Tots.”
It turned out that last year was the last time the family would deck-out the Summerfield Avenue home for Christmas. Earlier this year, Steve Kut and his wife Melanie Santos decided to sell the house.
“We loved our house and had no plans to leave,” Santos explained. “But that changed when this new house came on the market. It checked all the boxes – it was closer to our family, it was more spacious, and it was on more land.”
Melanie is a licensed real estate agent and represented her family in the sale of the Summerfield Avenue home, but buying a home in the current market is difficult to say the least. To complicate matters, their new dream home was a bank-owned property in Westport. She knew she was going to need help from the Pereira Group to close the deal on a new home.
“Our team got right to work preparing a bid for the auction,” Bruno Pereira said. “We know this market and have a proven track record of delivering results. Nothing is more gratifying than handing a client the keys to their new home.”
Realtors Bruno Pereira and Drew Carline handled everything with the bank and secured the property. The Pereira Group also played a hand in the sale of the Summerfield Avenue home, representing the new buyers of the Somerset property.
Since moving in, the Kut family has been busy with renovations on the new home. They did some new landscaping and redid the pool yard.
Of course, one of the biggest projects for Kut was designing and setting up the Christmas lights at the new home.
“This year’s Christmas display is bigger and better than ever.” said Steve Kut. “I started this tradition for my kids, so I am continuing the tradition in our new home.”
“Bruno and his team made our dreams come true,” Santos said. “They are extremely knowledgeable and made the entire process fast and easy – which in today’s market isn’t an easy thing to do.”
