Finances now only thing stopping St. Anne’s from re-opening
Things may not be moving quickly to re-open the iconic St. Anne’s Church, but it is moving in a positive direction.
According to Richie Affonso of the St. Anne’s Preservation Society, the group is now incorporated and has a bank account and tax i.d.
What may be even more crucial in the re-opening of the building is, according to Affonso, they have agreed on a 10 year lease with the Diocese of Fall River. This means that if the funds are raised, St. Anne’s will open it’s doors once again.
The Preservation Society is now officially taking donations and are working on a capital campaign.
The one shred of bad news in all of this is the group will be responsible for every penny to repair the landmark enough to re-open. That means about $3 million dollars needs to be raised. Despite the high price tag, Affonso is confident that the feat will be accomplished.
“We are going to make it happen. It’s too important to just let St. Anne’s go.”
Affonso asks that those who want to donate to repair St Anne’s to send your name and address to the St.Annespreservationsociety@gmail.com and he will mail to you the necessary form for donations.
