Final chimney implosion at Brayton Point site to take place next week
Commercial Development Company, Inc. and Brayton Point LLC, have announced plans for the implosion of the last chimney at the old Brayton Point Site.
The event is scheduled to take place on Saturday, February 22nd at approximately 8:00 a.m. with a weather delay date of Sunday, February 23rd.
The first three chimneys were demolished in March of 2019 with the two cooling towers being imploded in April of 2019.
The implosion will remove the last significant visual of the old power plant.
Controlled Demolition Inc. will be the implosion contractor.
A traffic management plan will be implemented to prevent distracted driving that could occur during the implosion. There will be rolling road blocks on I-195 in each direction, temporary road closures on Brayton Point Road, maritime traffic controls and other safety measures.
An exclusion zone will also be established at the site on the morning of the implosion.
The exclusion zone and an implosion FAQ is below.
