Fed up with high rents? How about a bus in Swansea?
Swansea, MA – With apartment rentals hard to come by, average home prices in Massachusetts hovering around a half a million dollars and 30-year fixed mortgage rates over 7%, perhaps it’s time to rethink your lifestyle.
This local Facebook Marketplace seller right here in Swansea might have the solution you need.
This converted school bus is a mini house on wheels and an affordable housing alternative. The bus boasts a tiny stove, insulated heater and on demand water heater. A queen-sized bed and a pull-out couch offer multiple sleeping options and a compost toilet make “skoolie” living a breeze. Listed for just $50,000, this 2003 Blue Bird might be just what jaded renters and wannabe house buyers need in this economy.
Not sure if bus living is right for you?
Instagram users Ginny and Austin document their skoolie lifestyle on their account BumpinBus that details their bus build out, favorite products to use inside their small homes and the day-to-day life living in a converted school bus.
So, what do you think? Are converted school buses something you would consider for a home instead of a traditional house or apartment?

I live in a bus that is much, much smaller than this one. It’s a 20 foot long for window, short bus, and I’ve lived at it for almost six years, three of those in Massachusetts. I’m in Arizona now, because when you have wheels on your house, you can be wherever you want, and I definitely don’t prefer snow. Building my bus was the best thing I’ve ever done for myself. At 62, I can actually live off of my Social Security, which would not be possible, if I were paying rent and electricity. Solar takes care of that part. I Document life in my little bus on YouTube (Maximalist Minibus) and I couldn’t be happier. I believe life on wheels is a great life for anyone, especially a senior like me.
