Family of fallen Fall River police officer continuing to create Christmas magic
In honor of a fallen Fall River police officer, his family is looking to spread a little “Christmas Magic” this holiday season once again.
Christmas Magic is a Fall River based program in its third year of operation that helps residents and neighbors who are struggling through the holidays.
In Memory of Detective Richard Magan, Magan’s daughter Jenna is looking to spread the Christmas spirit just like her father. “For any of you who knew our father, he was always “making magic” and helping those who may not have been able to see the magic of Christmas.”
The family will be choosing local families who are in need this holiday season via Facebook Messenger or e-mail at MagansChristmasMagic@gmail.com. All messages are confidential according to Magan and this year the need is even greater due to the pandemic.
Last year, Christmas Magic helped families ranging from struggling foster parents to residents dealing with serious illnesses.
In total, Christmas Magic was able to help over 40 local children and families in each of their first two years.
“Due to the pandemic, we decided to opt out of toy donation boxes. In September many officers from FRPD donated to Christmas Magic at a cookout in memory of our father, so that is what we will be using to purchase gifts this year.”
The fundraiser is also taking donations from the public to help. You can also adopt a family.
According to Fall River Police, Officer Richard G. Magan was killed in the line of duty on August 11, 2000. Detective Magan died from injuries sustained from a fall while he was responding to another officer’s call for help during the city’s annual waterfront festival, Fall River Celebrates America.
