Fall River upgrading parking meters to kiosks giving more ways to pay, more money to pay

The pictured parking meters may eventually be a thing of the past as Fall River has begun installing new parking kiosks that will give more options to pay for parking.

You may have seen the new kiosks who have been installed in the area of Government Center. Two have been installed so far, with more on the way.

The kiosks allow you to pay with credit cards and cash (no large bills) in addition to coins. The convenience, however, comes at a cost as the price to park increases from 50 cents to $1.00.

According to WJAR News, Laura Ferreira, the City’s Director of Traffic and Parking, has a goal of purchasing 42 kiosks and placing them in areas like the courthouse and hospitals.

Ferreira says that she believes the convenience that the kiosks provide will result in less parking tickets.
