Fall River to see more testing as city total jumps to 267 confirmed COVID-19 cases due to reporting issues

Fall River has seen 78 more confirmed positive cases of COVID-19.

According to Mayor Coogan, the City of Fall River has seen 267 total positive cases.

“Fall River got a reality check today. The same lab reporting issues that other cities and towns are dealing with hit us today. We went from 189 to 267 confirmed positives, with 124 cleared. Still 3 fatalities. We are still doing better than many other cities because of your efforts. Keep it up!”

Fall River had seen 17 confirmed cases on Thursday with 2 more deaths making a total of 3. Due to address changes, Friday’s count decreased the city total by 4. Saturday’s update revealed 2 confirmed cases and 2 removed due to address corrections. Sunday, Coogan confirmed 1 new case. Monday and Tuesday each saw 5 more.

The Fall River Health Department is in contact with the individuals who have tested positive as well as their contacts. These individuals are in isolation and quarantine.

Mayor Coogan’s Office continues to encourage residents to practice social distancing. This means keeping a distance of 6 feet between individuals. Continue to wash your hands on a regular basis, clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces, and stay home as much as possible, especially when you are sick. These measures will help to limit the spread of COVID-19.

Governor Baker stated in his daily press conference that he is increasing testing in highly populated areas.

2,200 tests per day are set to be sent to 12 community health centers including centers in cities such as Fall River, Brockton, and New Bedford.
