Fall River teen sentenced in Superior Court on firearm charge, to serve after current sentence

A Fall River teen was sentenced in Fall River Superior Court on Friday morning after pleading guilty.

According to Det. Sergeant Moses Pereira, on September 26th, Detectives assigned to the Vice, Gang, and Intelligence Unit executed a search warrant at an address located on the 100 block of Eighteenth Street.

The target of the search warrant was 18-year-old, Jovanni Rivera. During the execution of the search warrant, detectives located a loaded Sig Sauer p320 pistol. Rivera, who does not possess a license to carry was placed under arrest and charged with possession of a large capacity firearm, possession of a firearm without an FID card, possession of ammunition without an FID card, receiving stolen property, and resisting arrest.

On November 7th, 2024, Rivera was indicted in Fall River Superior Court on the “possession of a large capacity firearm” charge.

On December 10, 2024, in Fall River District Court, Rivera pled guilty to a “possession of a firearm without an FID card” charge from March of 2024.

On Friday morning, Rivera pled guilty to the “possession of a large capacity firearm” charge and was sentenced to not less than 2 years to not more than 2 1/2 years.

The sentence on this charge will begin after the 16-month sentence Rivera is presently serving for the “possession of a firearm without an FID card” charge.
