Fall River South Branch Library closing

A Fall River library will be saying goodbye.

The Fall River Public Library has announced that the South Branch location will be closing, effective December 18, 2020. The lease at the South Branch location, 58 Arch Street, was not renewed, and the library must vacate the premises.

Friday, December 18, will be the last day the library is open to the public.

The following statement was issued.

“We are so grateful for the patron support of our branch library over the years, and we realize that many of you have come to regard the librarians there as family. Therefore, you’ll be happy to know that Betsy and Deb will step into vacant positions at the Main Library.”

“We also realize that local branch libraries provide an important service to neighborhoods, allowing people a quick and easy way to visit the library near them, even if they don’t have a car. While options are limited now because of the coronavirus, we will be looking for ways to increase the library services available to all members of the community in the future.”

“I hope you will all join us in saying a fond farewell to our South Branch library and thanking the staff who have gone out of their way to make it a welcoming place. It is the end of this chapter, but the library story will go on.”

The South Branch Library will be open through the end of the week. Items can still be checked out. Any books, movies, or other material checked out from the South Branch can be returned at the Main Library book drop or at any library in the SAILS network, which includes Somerset, Swansea, Westport, and other Southcoast libraries.
