Fall River sees increase in Public Safety Staffing Grants for Fire and Police Departments
(Fall River, MA, January 31, 2020)- Lieutenant Governor Karyn Polito joined local and state elected officials today to announce the amount of state funding Fall River will receive from Public Safety Staffing Grants.
The Massachusetts Municipal Public Safety Staffing Grant (MUNI) program assists eligible municipalities to maintain public safety and emergency response services by helping them address police and/or fire department staffing shortfalls. Funds can be used to restore, retain or hire police and fire personnel or for overtime if needed to provide adequate shift coverage to
maintain appropriate staffing levels.
Since 2011, Fall River has received more than $6.3M in funding from this program. In FY2019, Fall River received $966,200 in Public Safety Staffing Grants. $506,164 for the Fall River Police Department and $460,036 for the Fall River Fire Department.
The City of Fall River Police and Fire Departments will receive increases from the Public Safety Staffing Grants in FY2020 with $509,300 for the Fall River Police Department and $758,435 for the Fall River Fire Department.
